Manager: Train Crew Depot



Position Purpose
Manage and monitor the utilization of resources (locomotives, crew and vehicles) effectively within the Corridor operational depot of responsibility thus ensuring ITP execution, quality customer service, safe operations and a Scheduled railway.
Position Outputs
• Ensure adherence to SOP, train working rules and legislation to reduce safety incidents as well as running smooth train operations (IMS programmes).
• Responsible for ensuring the provision of safe and secure work environment as well as hygienic facilities to the employees across the respective operational areas for restoration of people pride and care.
• Execute and monitor the ITP by ensuring the availabity and reliability of resources.
• Ensure the safe working environment is established and maintained in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety as well as enterprise risk management regulations.
• Implement the manpower plan by determining and monitoring workforce requirements based on business and operational needs
• Interface with the local trade union representation at the depot level to ensure sound labour relations.
• Manage and control depot expenditure budget ensuring no costs overruns.
• Manage and develop subordinates.
• Identify mechanisms for continuous improvement of operational efficiencies.
• Perform duties to sustain personal operating licence within the required timeline in accordance to the TFR and RSR standards and requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
Diploma in Commerce/Logistics/Transport Management/Operations/ Safety.
• A minimum of 8 years’ experience working within Operations of which 4 years is spent at Supervisory (G) level.
• Functional Yard Operations course OR be prepared to attend and pass the 1st available course
• Qualified in Incident Commander (IC) and Incident Officer (IO) duties or be able to attend the first available course.
• Be in possession of C1 driving licence and be in a position to drive such a vehicle. OR
• Grade 12 plus Functional Yard Operations Course.
• A minimum of 15 years’ experience working within Operations of which 7 years is spent at Supervisory (G) level.
• Qualified in IC and IO duties.
• Be in possession of C1 driving licence and be in a position to drive such a vehicle.
