The Department of Health is inviting applications for the position of Cleaner at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.

Key Requirements:

Applicants should meet the following minimum requirements:

  • ABET Level 2 certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • No prior experience is required; however, experience in cleaning for 12 months or more will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of basic cleaning procedures, including the use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
    Good communication skills and sound interpersonal relations.
  • Ability to perform routine tasks efficiently and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Preparedness to work under pressure and adhere to instructions from supervisors.
  • Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays, as staff rotation is compulsory.
  • Physical fitness and readiness to perform labor-intensive cleaning tasks. Protective clothing must be worn at all times in accordance with legal requirements.

Candidates should possess the following skills and competencies:

  • Ability to liaise professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Understanding of workplace safety standards and the correct use of cleaning equipment.
  • Attention to detail and a strong sense of responsibility in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Flexibility to assist with additional duties as required by supervisors.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The Cleaner will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.

 

Core duties include:

  • Cleaning floors, doors, walls, windows, beds, bed lockers, steps, and all other areas indoors and outdoors.
  • Using cleaning equipment, including polishers and other machines, according to operational guidelines.
  • Handling cleaning chemicals responsibly, following safety protocols.
  • Performing routine cleaning duties as assigned by supervisors.
  • Assisting with additional tasks as needed to ensure a high standard of cleanliness.
